Arming The harrier

The Arming Screen

The Arming Screen

In the East Island Campaign you must arm your harrier before every sortie. After selecting 'Play' on the Mission Selection Screen, and before you take-off, you are presented with the Harrier Arming Screen.

This screen allows you to arm and fuel your Harrier. The location window on the left shows and allows you to select which location on the Harrier is currently being loaded. The payload window on the right shows and allows you to select what is loaded onto the selected location. At the bottom of the screen, the total payload bar shows the current total payload weight and the weight limits for the different take-off methods.

The Location Window

Click 'Select' in this window to select the payload location from a list. Alternatively use the 'Next' and 'Previous' buttons at the bottom of the window. A description of the current location is shown in the centre of the window. Possible locations are any of the four (six if you have won additional pylons) under-wing pylons, the central fuselage pylon, the fuselage mounted cannon or the internal fuel tank.

The Payload Window

Click 'Select' in this window to select the payload for the current location. When the selected location has a payload its description and editing controls are displayed below the 'Select' button. These are the payload limitations:

  • Bombs and cluster bombs - only one bomb can be loaded per pylon.
  • Rockets - Two pods can be carried per pylon if you have won the 'Twin rocket pod mount'. Otherwise only one can be carried. The number of rockets per pod can be adjusted.
  • Missiles - Two air-to-air or anti-radiation missiles can be carried per pylon if you have won the 'Twin missile mount'. Otherwise only one can be carried.
  • Anti-ship missiles - only one missile can be loaded per pylon.
  • Auxiliary Fuel Tanks - One tank can be carried per pylon, but only on the two inner pylons. The amount of fuel carried can be adjusted.
  • Stores Pods - One pod can be carried per pylon, but only on the two inner pylons.
  • Cannon - The cannon may be mounted under the fuselage. The number of rounds of ammunition carried may be adjusted.
  • Inboard Fuel Tank - The amount of inboard fuel may be adjusted.

The Total Payload Bar

While arming the Harrier, keep an eye on the total payload weight shown on this bar. If the total weight exceeds the limit for a particular take-off method (short, fast or vertical), the methods marker will turn red.

Buttons

  • Save - Save the current weapon configuration to hard disk.
  • Load - Load a previosly saved configuration.
  • Delete - Delete one of the previously saved configurations from disk.
  • Clear - Clears the current payload configuration, emptying all of the pylons and giving a full internal fuel tank.
