Buddy Harrier

In the final mission of the East Island Campaign, Cockleshell Beach, you are assisted by a second 'buddy' Harrier.

He is armed with infinite numbers of laser-guided bombs and radar-guided air-to-air missiles. He is also equiped with infinite chaff, flares and fuel. He will follow you and hold his fire unless you command him otherwise.

Commands are given by key-code. The key-codes are given here.

Three commands can be given:

  • Follow Me - Your buddy will break off from an attack, follow you, and hold his fire.
  • Attack Air Targets Here -Your buddy will fly to your current location and stay there. He will attack any airborne targets that come within range. Give a new command when you want him to break off.
  • Attack Ground Targets Here - Your buddy will fly to your current location and attack any ground targets within the area. When there are no more targets in the area he will revert to 'Follow Me' mode.

When you give a command you will see the command name in the information window unless there is a higher priority message already there. If the message 'Cannot contact buddy' is shown, your buddy has been destroyed.

You will probably lose him if he is held under continuous enemy fire for any length of time. In a similar way to the players Harrier, the buddy takes damage, and can repair it, but only if he doesn't take fresh damage for a period of time.
