Harrier Controls

In Harrier Attack II your Harrrier is controlled by your PC keyboard and mouse.

Playing Keys

Flight of the Harrier is controlled by the keyboard. The keyboard controls the speed of the Harrier, its vertical position and launching of weapons. By default the following keys are used:

All the buttons (except for Pause) may be redefined in the game via Main-menu->Settings->Keyboard.

At the start of the game the secondary weapon select and fire keys are not used. The secondary weapon system may be won in the first South Island mission 'Soften'.

Strafe key combination

When using ground directed weapons, such as the cannon or rockets, it can be useful to use the strafe key combination. Holding down the 'Up' key while pressing 'Down' will cause the Harriers nose to drop further to carry out ground strafing. If you have been awarded the 'Weapon Cam', and it is turned on, the weapon cam will give a view from beneath the Harrier which can also be useful. In addition, if you hold down the 'Slower' or 'Faster' key while strafing, fire is directed to port or starboard respectively.

Note that the PC keyboard hardware may object when certain combinations of three keys are held down simultaneously. If this is the case with your keyboard then a beep will be emitted. Try altering your playing keys (from the main menu via Settings->Input->Keyboard) to eliminate the problem.

Key-codes

In addition to controlling speed and vertical position, the Up, Down, Faster and Slower keys are also used to enter key-codes.

Key-store Keys

You may be awarded up to five key-code stores. By default these correspond to the keyboard keys:

  • Key-store 1 - 'F1'
  • Key-store 2 - 'F2'
  • Key-store 3 - 'F3'
  • Key-store 4 - 'F4'
  • Key-store 5 - 'F5

The Mouse

The mouse may be used to control switches and buttons on the Harrier console, as well as navigating the game menus and dialogs.

TrackIR™

The TrackIR™ head tracker device from Natural Point® can be used to control the camera direction and zoom as well as the position of the Harrier on screen. Which TrackIR axes are enabled can be set on the TrackIR settings screen.
