Harrier Damage
When the Harrier is hit by enemy fire, one of the following will
occur:
- An item of console equipment may be
damaged. This is a nuisance, a lot of the console equipment is
quite useful. Console items may be repaired while in flight though,
by using the 'Console Repair'
skill, if you have it. If all of the console items are already
damaged, the Harriers engine will fail, and your only recourse is
to eject, if you have the ejection
seat. It follows that the more console items you have won, the
greater the damage you can take before engine failure occurs.
Effectively, every time you are awarded a new console item, it acts
as an extra life.
- The inboard fuel tank may be punctured, causing excess fuel
loss. This cannot be repaired while in flight.
- If the Harrier is carrying auxilliary fuel tanks, one of them may
become punctured Punctured auxiliary tanks should be jetisoned when
empty to avoid suck-back from the onboard tank.
- If the Harrier is carrying stores
pods, one may become dislodged and fall to the ground, Oops!
You were probably carrying that to fulfill a mission
objective.
In the East Island Campaign you may
re-fuel and re-arm when you land on your aircraft carrier. The
console will also be fully repaired, but leaks in the onboard fuel
tank are not.
If your Harrier collides with another aircraft it will suffer
maximum console damage immediately, leaving it extremely
vulnerable. If the console is already fully damaged then the
Harrier is immediately destroyed. Destroying enemy aircraft in this
way does not usually contribute towards meeting your objectives, or
add to your score.
If your Harrier collides with objects on the ground, or the
ground or sea itself, then it is immediately destroyed.
